2015 WA Indigenous Art Awards

Queenslander Megan Cope has been named the recipient of the $50,000 Western Australian Indigenous Art Award, Australia’s richest award celebrating the achievements of our Indigenous artists.

Selected from 118 nominations across Australia, Cope’s video work The Blaktism (2014), which draws on her experiences of applying for a Certificate of Aboriginality to prove her Indigenous identity and explores notions of power and identity. Cope is a Noonuccal/Ngugi woman from Stradbroke Island.
